Getting to Know Lexington's Planning Processes

The Development Handbook is a direct implementation of Imagine Lexington, the City’s 2018 Comprehensive Plan, which calls for intentional efforts to make the development process more accessible to the public. The newly released guide will serve those interested in navigating the Division’s many processes relating to development, subdivisions, zone changes, and more.

The purpose of the Development Handbook is to:

  • Make the development review process more accessible and better for all members of the public and developers

  • Provide guidance and information on planning processes to meet the needs of new and experienced developers; and

  • Increase transparency and legibility for the public.

Accela 101: The Basics of Using Lexington’s Online Development Tracking Tool

The Accela Citizen Portal is the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government’s automated development tracking system for both members of the public and the development community. It provides online access to planning applications (and more) and keeps the development review process on track. One of the most useful features of the Accela Citizen Portal is the ability to search, save, and track development applications. This video will walk you through the basics of those functions while also providing some explanation of the various record types available to search.
